Description: The Blount County Health Department strives to provide health promotion services in an integrated model for Blount County and with other community partners in the provision of primary prevention for the community at large. The Health Educator is responsible for assessing individual and community needs for health education.
Duties: Responsibilities include planning, implementing and evaluating health education strategies, interventions, and programs. Specific responsibilities include implementing interventions within the community health services block-grant. In addition to group classes, the position also includes community organization and development for behavior change in the area of behavioral risk reduction. Other responsibilities may include participating in health promotion research and working collaboratively with faculty and staff from a variety of departments across the region and within the Health Department. The candidate filling this position will be part of a team of professionals working to advance the health of those who live work and play in Blount County.
Qualifications: Minimum
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Nursing, or a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred
Qualifications:
A master-s degree in public health, health education, counseling, or health-related field is preferred. Must possess a minimum of two years experience of organization and administration of health promotion programs, preferably in the community setting.
Knowledge of and prior experience with mindfulness practices and health coaching is preferred. Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or CHES eligible strongly preferred.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
